SUMMARY:2020 A+C Festival | Flight Path: Designing New Airport
DESCRIPTION:What’s the future of airports in the age of a global pandemic? How are architects and designers creating new airport experiences? How can San Francisco International Airport (SFO) pave a path to the future? \nAirports are among the most complex building typologies which over the decades have become nearly self-contained mini-cities. “Flight Path” looks at how architecture and interior design shape the human experience of airports\, primarily at SFO. In its 93-year history\, SFO has evolved from what was originally planned as a temporary\, experimental airport in 1927 to the largest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area\, and a pioneering global travel hub in the 21st century\, at once international and infused with regional culture. \nJoin panelists Ryan Fetters\, RA\, LEED AP\, principal and design director\, Gensler; William S. Duff\, Jr.\, AIA\, founder and managing principal\, William Duff Architects (WDA) and Katy Mercer\, IIDA\, principal and regional interior design leader\, Woods Bagot\, in conversation with Emmy Award-winning former broadcast journalist Sydnie Kohara\, founder\, The Kohara Group. \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n\nAbout the Architecture + the City Festival (September 11-30) \nCo-presented by AIA San Francisco and the Center for Architecture + Design\, the 17th annual Architecture + the City goes virtual and will continue to offer behind-the-scenes programs\, walking tours\, literature\, live presentations and more that provide an excellent opportunity for all communities to experience architecture and design in a myriad of ways throughout the city. Every September\, the festival reveals the many facets and layers of San Francisco\, and how architecture and design play a key role in this ever-changing urban landscape. \nFor more info visit www.archandcity.org
