SUMMARY:AIASF Design for Aging: Enhancing Wellness with Outdoor Environments
DESCRIPTION:The importance of landscape architecture and design in senior communities cannot be underestimated. As an aid to socialization and wellness by drawing residents outdoors\, the design of the outdoor spaces can be beneficial to the mental and physical health of senior adults. Join us for a panel discussion with Casey Case and Linda Gates of Gates + Associates\, who will share strategies for effective and thoughtful landscape design in senior communities. They will discuss methods in which landscape architecture promotes independence; heightens sensory perception; and offers emotional support and wellness through the design of private\, semi-private\, and public spaces. \n\n\nLearning Objectives (1 LU) \n– Analyzing the characteristics of designing outdoor spaces that increase socialization and wellness for older adults; \n– Understanding programming of outdoor spaces that invite\, engage\, and delight residents of senior living communities; \n– Understanding the relationship between biophilia and senior wellness; \n– Reviewing landscape design elements that reinforce wellness and resiliency\, including wayfinding\, activity\, social gathering\, safety\, and environmental stewardship.
