SUMMARY:BIM – Doors + Hardware Best Practices
DESCRIPTION:The dreaded door schedule is often ignored until nearly the end of every design phase\, the hot potato no one wants to catch. So many schedule cells to fill and check\, and then the inscrutable hardware set schedule and specification. Midnight\, the night before your deadline is not the time to face this challenge. But you don’t have to face it alone. \nAIASF Professional Practice Committee invites you to join us for presentation on ways to manage the challenges of door and hardware schedules and specifications. Working in BIM and utilizing a plug-in database system in concert with a door hardware specifier\, we’ll show you how to build a schedule and spec in a building information modeling world. \n  \n\nLearning Objectives\nAfter attending this program\, participants will be able to: \n\nunderstand the function and format of a door and hardware schedule and the value of clean\, thoughtfully constructed door families.\nrecognize factors in the programming of a door that should be transmitted to a door hardware specifier so that the door will operate in the ways it was intended.\nunderstand generally how security\, electricity\, and fire alarm systems must always coordinate with door hardware and door operation to provide a secure space with safe egress.\nwork with a hardware specifier and a plug-in door/hardware database to create specifications and schedules that will satisfy the building department\, fire marshal\, and the bidders.\n\n  \n\nAbout the Speakers\n \nLisa Meniketti\, AIA\, LEED BD+C\nArchitect\, SmithGroup \nLisa Meniketti has over 35 years of experience in the office and in the field\, transforming designs into constructed spaces\, from early years in commercial and retail\, through many years in K-12 and higher education\, more recently on Highland Hospital\, NorthBay Medical Center\, So. San Francisco Community Civic Center\, and UCSF Weill Neurosciences Center\, a clinical research lab in Mission Bay. Balancing program functional complexities\, fire and building codes\, aesthetics\, building engineering requirements\, constructability\, and cost is what excites Lisa about complex technical projects. From her first job at Gensler before cadd was ubiquitous\, Lisa has ridden the cadd and BIM wave to be a full time Revit user and a proponent of building information modeling for contractor coordination and clash prevention in the field. \nTommy Chen\nOpenings Studio Building Technologies Consultant\, ASSA ABLOY \nTommy Chen joined ASSA ABLOY in 2016 and worked with as the technical deployment lead of the Openings Studio BIM platform across the Asia Pacific division as one of his main responsibilities. He is since 2019 based off of San Francisco and has worked to support architects and specifiers alike across the west coast to execute and deliver BIM best practice for openings utilizing the Openings Studio BIM plugin for projects of varying sizes and complexity. As a hobby programmer\, he brings his passion for all things data and technology to the industry to help drive manufacturer adoption of BIM and close the loop between design\, construction\, and facility management.
