SUMMARY:The Great Reset | Series Event 2: Research and Technology
DESCRIPTION:How are design professionals supporting industry integration of climate and resilience strategies through research and development of new technologies? \nFour skilled design professionals will respond to these questions with a short presentation\, followed by a moderated roundtable discussion and audience Q&A. Join us to hear how these practitioners from a variety of firm sizes and backgrounds adopt new approaches while they adapt to design in the Climate Age. \nThis program is accredited by AIASF to provide 1 HSW learning unit to AIA member attendees \nREGISTER HERE \n  \n\nLearning Objectives\nParticipants will be able to: \n\nIdentify how practitioners from many fields are working to address climate and resilience through research and development of new technologies.\nCompare a range research and development responses to climate change\, from decarbonization to health equity.\nEvaluate what opportunities exist for architects and design professionals to engage in research and share initiatives.\nInitiate conversations with Clients and Design Teams about areas of innovation to address climate and resilience planning in their design projects.\n\n  \n\nGold-level Sponsorship\nThanks to the generous support of David Baker Architects and JENSEN Architects through a joint gold-level sponsor of the Great Reset series\, registration is free and open to all. \nREGISTER HERE \n  \n\nAbout the Panelists\nStet Sanborn\nAIA\, NCARB\, CPHC\, LEED AP\nPrincipal\, Engineering Discipline Lead | SmithGroup \nAn award-winning designer with a background in both engineering and architecture\, Stet serves as the Engineering Discipline Leader in SmithGroup’s San Francisco office. He specializes in Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Carbon design. Stet is a leading voice in national decarbonization efforts and building electrification; recently supporting the City of Berkeley\, San Francisco\, and San Jose on their electrification ordinance development. He currently sits on the San Francisco Mayors Building Decarbonization Taskforce for New Construction. Stet leads efforts to incorporate high performance building enclosures\, passive design strategies and advanced HVAC systems into a wide range of build types in pursuit of rapid decarbonization. \nStet earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University and a Master of Architecture from the University of California\, Berkeley. He frequently returns to Berkeley to serve as a guest faculty member in the Department of Architecture and frequently serves as a member of Technical Advisory Committees for the California Energy Commission EPIC grant research projects focused on Net Zero Energy multifamily design. Stet is currently a co-author of the upcoming ASHRAE Advanced Energy Design Guide for Zero Energy multi-family buildings.
