DESCRIPTION:How are design professionals supporting industry integration of climate and resilience strategies through research and development of new technologies? \nFour skilled design professionals will respond to these questions with a short presentation\, followed by a moderated roundtable discussion and audience Q&A. He specializes in Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Carbon design. Stet is a leading voice in national decarbonization efforts and building electrification; recently supporting the City of Berkeley\, San Francisco\, and San Jose on their electrification ordinance development. He currently sits on the San Francisco Mayors Building Decarbonization Taskforce for New Construction. Stet leads efforts to incorporate high performance building enclosures\, passive design strategies and advanced HVAC systems into a wide range of build types in pursuit of rapid decarbonization. \nStet earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University and a Master of Architecture from the University of California\, Berkeley. He frequently returns to Berkeley to serve as a guest faculty member in the Department of Architecture and frequently serves as a member of Technical Advisory Committees for the California Energy Commission EPIC grant research projects focused on Net Zero Energy multifamily design. Stet is currently a co-author of the upcoming ASHRAE Advanced Energy Design Guide for Zero Energy multi-family buildings. He also currently serves on ASHRAE’s Decarbonization Taskforce’s Sub-Committee on Building Systems Efficiency. \nBrian Jencek\nASLA\, RLA\nSenior Principal\, Global Director | HOK \nBrian Jencek is the Global Director of HOK’s Planning practice\, leading over 100 city planners\, urban designers\, landscape architects and environmental scientists across 14 studios\, around the world. His experience spans numerous award-winning projects nationally and abroad\, including the 2012 London Olympics\, Stanford University’s new School of Medicine campus\, 2020 Dubai World Expo\, the Hong Kong Central Waterfront\, and planning for new ecological cities in Panama\, Brazil\, China and India. Educated in Landscape Architecture\, Architecture and Planning at Cornell University\, Brian is active professionally and academically within the ASLA\, ULI\, SPUR\, and Clinton Climate Initiative\, is a Landscape Architecture Foundation Board Member\, and teaches graduate-level design studios on topics of climate change resiliency and environmental planning at the UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design. \nEmma O’Connor-Brooks + Robinick Fernandez\nCentering Health Equity: An Open Source Framework for Real Estate and Infrastructure\nMithun \nAs key members of Mithun’s Design for Health research team\, Emma and Robinick engaged with with developers\, policy makers and planners\, designers\, contractors\, property managers\, sustainability and health consultants and collaborated with academic institutions to create the beta Centering Health Equity Framework. This open-source action framework is guided by a collective impact theory of change and aims to inspire\, mobilize and focus teams within their everyday roles to address health inequities the building industry. The initiative daylights the drivers of health equity and highlights decision-points in practitioners’ sphere of influence in order to multiply health equity opportunities in real estate and infrastructure project delivery. \n  \n\nAbout the Moderator\nMaggie Morrow\nRA\, LEED AP BD+C\nSenior Associate | Petersen Studio \nMaggie’s professional experience bridges the fields of landscape architecture and architecture\, most recently as a Senior Associate with Petersen Studio\, where she has specialized in managing large waterfront and campus landscapes\, including the 25-acre Harbor Park on the San Diego Bayfront and the 20-acre Burlingame Point campus on the San Francisco Bayfront. Maggie has been an active member of AIASF Committee on the Environment since 2018\, and through outreach\, seeks to broaden opportunities to integrate resilience strategies into the daily practice of small offices. \n  \n\nAbout the Series\nTHE GREAT RESET is a series of conversations with building industry professionals who are proactively embracing our changing world.
