SUMMARY:Understanding Stone Wool
DESCRIPTION:More than a rock\, Stone wool insulations today can be used in more building enclosure applications than ever before. Participants will develop an understanding of the benefits of stone wool along with the building science behind why stone wool is becoming the insulation of choice for a variety of applications. We will touch upon the 7 strengths of Stone Wool including\, Thermal\, Moisture\, Sustainability\, (Net Zero\, LCA) Acoustics\, Fire Resistance\, Inert- Anti Mold & Fungi & Indoor Air Quality. \n  \n\nLearning Objectives\nAt the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify design strategies to improve the health and well-being of building occupants related to acoustical and thermal comfort\, indoor air quality\, and fire protection while meeting Title 24 requirements.\nExamine the thermal properties and energy efficiency benefits of stone wool versus foam plastic insulation materials in roofing and wall applications.\nIdentify the differences between Stone Wool\, Slag Wool\, and glass fiber from an acoustic and fire safety perspective\, and how this can affect occupant safety\, health\, and comfort.\nDiscuss features and benefits of stone wool in the context of building science and fire safety.\nSummarize the environmental and sustainable aspects of stone wool and LEED credit available. Translate these findings and source appropriate environmental documentation to specify stone wool into their next green building (certified) project.\n\n  \n\nAbout the Presenter\nPamela Sadler\nROCKWOOL Architectural Specifications manager CA/NV \nMy short stint in construction in 1983 turned into a gratifying career. I consider myself fortunate to have been part of the collaboration on projects such as the Prince Hotel\, Claremont Hotel\, Hyatt Regency Waikaloa\, Rincon Center\, Google campuses\, Chase Center\, Numerous School Districts\, Hospitals\, Offices & Luxury residences. \nIn the last 4 years my path has led me from Cladding & Finishes to Net Zero awareness\, Sustainability\, Fire Resiliency\, Healthy Building Environments and Building Science.
